flickering candles

my face / a silhouette / in the dark

ripples in the water

hair obscuring it all / freckles / moonlight

paper to ash

tinder / firelight / pine trees

you can hear the voices on the wind
[a. howling]
[b. whispering]
[c. crying]
[d. comforting]

there's only so far you can fly until
you fall back to the earth

but this time
not plummeting
(knock on wood)

here it goes
a firework
in that forgotten chamber

she never told me what she was afraid of
and she no longer knows where she is.

the cookie cutter mold
is warped
and burned
and unrecognizable
unholy

i've never known a person /
to wish for amnesia /
so young

so young /
to wish for amnesia /
i've never known a person

is this the dream?

are we waking up?

who's here with me

the sun peeks through

her namesake

sometimes i wonder what happened
when the angels fell

wine and blood
blood and wine

we all
bleed the same

where is the real ambrosia?

when my children ask about falling in love

i'll tell them about being set on fire

both being burned alive
cooked from the inside out

and the warmth
the blush
fireplaces deep within the heart
nursing the embers
being
feeling
home

she swallowed herself alive

where are we?

awake awake

tell my family i'm coming home

sometimes,
we must take this journey alone

take this journey alone

take this journey alone

strength can be found

bravery can be found

wisdom can be found

here.

she's locked herself away
and the prince is too far away
and the pauper is stuck
he can't reach the link.
he can't reach #7.

who is the hero?
who is the villain?
who is the prince?

where is everybody?

will this story swallow itself whole?

honesty hour

This blog is a secret. And so am I. The noise is great because it makes it easier to hide - to be invisible. To exist without all of the eyes watching and the people judging. But now it's time to be quiet. It's time to be honest. My parents don't know about that blog post I wrote on Hey There, Delilah and I never shared it with them because it was a secret and because I think my mom would be ashamed that I opened up to people I barely knew, but it took me seven and a half years to talk to her about it. My little brother is afraid of becoming my father and I think that's a little alarming. But I'm glad he's trying to be better. I can't make decisions and I struggle with expectations because I feel like no matter how hard I try, I will always let people down. I will always be a disappointment. Years ago, I was raped. And I don't remember it. And he doesn't understand it, even though he tries his best to be patient. And he says he loves m...

the edge

i could drive to the edge of the world in the middle of the night and nobody would know. steer my car to the fringe of the earth and reach my hands over the ledge and just. just. did i ever exist at all? everything is made of dust and nothing matters unless you let it. ash and dust. blood and bone. digits. fingers. reaching over the edge. lingering reaching i feel like i'm losing myself in myself. does that even make sense? compacting / compressing safety-proofing. dehumanizing. disappearing. it is so hard to be good. standing on the edge watching everything disintegrate feeling the ash brush against my fingers at the edge of the world

work in progress

what hurt the most was how much i loved him. hands clasped together, eating chocolate donuts and gelato on his couch in the basement talking about secret bosses while we stole kisses. the tulip festival and the way it rained after every movie we saw and the classical music we listened to on the way home. it was the love that hurts. not the names he called me or when he shoved me into the door or kicked my windshield so hard that it seemed like it shattered everything you will never know what happened to me. you will never understand what it's like to give someone your heart and have this happen. i feel my personality splintering you. will. never. understand. and i can't explain it to you. i can't show you and this lack of understanding kills me. sends me reeling. you will never understand what is happening to me.
