funeral

The pauper is dead.
The pauper is dead and we have all been too blind to see it.

We’d propped up his corpse and set it in a chair

And fed him meals of bread and cake
We took the body on drives and through the city
We delivered him to school and talked to him about careers
Despite the fact that the only sound he made
Was that of the flies buzzing

But we finally set him in the ground.
Buried him beneath the dirt
Bare and empty

But sometimes
We can still feel him
Breathing
Reaching

And sometimes

We reach back.

honesty hour

This blog is a secret. And so am I. The noise is great because it makes it easier to hide - to be invisible. To exist without all of the eyes watching and the people judging. But now it's time to be quiet. It's time to be honest. My parents don't know about that blog post I wrote on Hey There, Delilah and I never shared it with them because it was a secret and because I think my mom would be ashamed that I opened up to people I barely knew, but it took me seven and a half years to talk to her about it. My little brother is afraid of becoming my father and I think that's a little alarming. But I'm glad he's trying to be better. I can't make decisions and I struggle with expectations because I feel like no matter how hard I try, I will always let people down. I will always be a disappointment. Years ago, I was raped. And I don't remember it. And he doesn't understand it, even though he tries his best to be patient. And he says he loves m...

the edge

i could drive to the edge of the world in the middle of the night and nobody would know. steer my car to the fringe of the earth and reach my hands over the ledge and just. just. did i ever exist at all? everything is made of dust and nothing matters unless you let it. ash and dust. blood and bone. digits. fingers. reaching over the edge. lingering reaching i feel like i'm losing myself in myself. does that even make sense? compacting / compressing safety-proofing. dehumanizing. disappearing. it is so hard to be good. standing on the edge watching everything disintegrate feeling the ash brush against my fingers at the edge of the world

work in progress

what hurt the most was how much i loved him. hands clasped together, eating chocolate donuts and gelato on his couch in the basement talking about secret bosses while we stole kisses. the tulip festival and the way it rained after every movie we saw and the classical music we listened to on the way home. it was the love that hurts. not the names he called me or when he shoved me into the door or kicked my windshield so hard that it seemed like it shattered everything you will never know what happened to me. you will never understand what it's like to give someone your heart and have this happen. i feel my personality splintering you. will. never. understand. and i can't explain it to you. i can't show you and this lack of understanding kills me. sends me reeling. you will never understand what is happening to me.
